BI Isn't Just for the Big Guys Anymore!

According to Wikipedia, Business Intelligence (BI) is defined as "the process of gathering information in the field of business. It can be described as the process of enhancing data into information and then into knowledge. Business intelligence is carried out to gain sustainable competitive advantage, and is a valuable core competence in some instances."

How is your business intelligence IQ? BI tools are no longer beyond your grasp, according to a Microsoft Momentum story by Mary Brandel, which finds that more midsize companies are taking advantage of less complex, less costly tools to analyze the gigabytes of data that exist within their organizations and to gain better insight into business problems and opportunities.

According to Mary Brandel, business intelligence solutions traditionally were too expensive and complex for midsize companies. But by using BI capabilities built into SQL Server and Excel®, as well as third-party add-ons to Microsoft environments, more midsize companies are developing BI capabilities that enable them to compete with their larger competitors.
